Events and happenings in Mapleton

Here's a few pictures Ken sent in. (Remember,
I love getting pictures and updates from EVERYONE.)

The old fridge was finally done in, but they did get $100 bucks for it.
It fit(whew!) with an inch to spare.

Bet it doesn't look like that inside anymore!

Sophie got a new Pogo Stick.

Go Sophie, go.
Sophie is ready to go to her first skiing lesson. Her Mom says she's a natural.

CORRECTION

I didn't have any recent pictures of Nathan, so I asked Ken to send me some. I was amazed that he could get one of Nathan with his presents already opened and displayed on his bed.  Turns out, that was a Christmas picture. Nice haul for Christmas but a little much for a birthday Ken said. For his birthday, Nathan got a watch plus his birthday keeps on giving as tonight the family is going out to eat.
Looks like not one, but 2 birthday cakes!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN JOSEPH AGLE

Happy birthday to Nathan who turns 14 today.

Looks like he did alright for gifts.

Nathan fills his extra hours these days performing in a school musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He plays BOTH Potipher and the Baker.
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't steal the show!

AT HOME WITH THE AGLE SR.s

No one has sent any blog stuff in lately so grasping at straws, I guess I will share our exciting happenings at our house.

As you can see by the gaping holes, some of our vertical blind slats are missing.

Over the last few years, one would fall out because the attachement hole would break. I would turn it up side down and punch a new hole in the oposite end and we were good to go for a while (sort of). Eventually though, the gadgets that you put the slats in were getting old enough that they broke as well. Of course you can't replace them any more because they don't make them so exploring all options, and thanks to Home Depot (rather than a custom blind store) we were able to get a new setup for a fraction of the cost.
Ken was here for a few days and before we could say "gee whiz", he had the old ones down and the new ones up.  No more gaping holes.

When company comes, if they sleep in the living room they can have privacy.

They pull to the side with a wand. No more cords.

DUCK HUNTING

What can be more fun than getting up BEFORE the crack of dawn, (way before), IN THE  WINTER, driving several miles and hiding in cold, damp marshes for hours? You guessed it. DUCK HUNTING. One of Uncle Steve's favorite things to do. He, along with two buddies and a dog (Ottis) enjoyed this activity recently and here are a few pictures.

Now that is a gorgeous sunrise.

Get the decoys out on the pond and wait for the ducks to arrive.

Got one!  Ottis doing what he does best. Great dog.

Steve with Ottis and a friend.

Ottis sure knows how to pose. The guy behind him is pretty good too!

ANOTHER BLAST FROM THE PAST

The Chai families gathered up a lot of their old slides and Ryan Chai spent quite a bit of time fixing a lot of them and then assembling them. Beki sent me a thumb drive with over a 1300 pictures and some of them had the Agles in then, so I'm posting a few.
After we had been in Hawaii for a year (Chai's 3 years) we sent for our folks to come for a visit. Here we are picking them up at the airport. Carol loved her purses, and I think she is also holding Grandma's. That's Auntie Ann with her hand on Von's shoulder. Beki is holding the stroller and Liz is the baby. Nalani is by her side. Next to Dennis & Ken, Maui is looking back at Grandma. I think you can figure out the rest of the group.
This was a day we spent down at Clissold's beach.

Grandpa loved getting in that warm sea water with Kim and Keo.

This was the hike to Sacred Falls.
Looks like were taking a break.

One of the falls on the way.

 I love this picture.

A few years later. In front of the Chai's home. Carol and Quinton were wed by then. January painted that picture that I'm holding. Check out Ruth's cool outfit, not to be outdone by Erik's little suit.
This was their house in the summer. Gorgeous!

THE LANCASTERS GUEST ROOM

Rolfe, Iowa  will be celebrating its sesquicentennial this year. Among the many things happening will be a Parade of Homes and they have asked the Lancasters if their home would be in it. They agreed but now they are working hard to finish up a few projects. They have put the finishing touches on the guest room. Over the last few years they have done a lot to it and it shows.
The iron bed is an antique as is the table.

The amoire and chest of drawers are also antiques.
There are two entrances to the bedroom.
That glass door goes into their living room.

This is the hallway that leads to the bedroom. Julie said it was a challenge, wall-papering this area. Suzanne also knows the challenges of wallpapering. What a beautiful pattern.Note the lovely finish on the floor.

JANUARY'S ANNUAL VISIT

January spent a week with us and we had a wonderful time. We mostly just enjoyed each other's company, ate well, watched some movies, and played cards. What's not to enjoy?

We hit the trail to Murrieta and met Dexter. What a cute little puppy!

He has a very good trainer.
At 8 weeks he already knows the command to SIT.
He even did it for me. Such a smart dog.

January offered to help prepare the deviled eggs.
Erik is pointing at her expertise.

Yep folks! She did get a little on her hands.

Then it was time to enjoy the Super Bowl. One half of the group was for the Falcons, and the other was for the 'Niners.

On Monday Shawn Price, my brother's youngest son came over for a visit. He is an avid genealogist and hopes one of the younger generation will carry it on when he 'retires'.
Any offers?

SOPHIE'S FIRST SEWING LESSON

After Sophie made two sewing projects without using the sewing machine she was ready to tackle the "MACHINE".

Here she is at her first lesson.

Off to class.
