Update on Katie

Here's an update on what's going on in Katie's world from her own lips.

I do have good news!! today, I got a call from Banana Republic, the clothing store, and they are hiring me! I have been hired on their merchandising team, instead of a sales associate (from what I understand). They are hiring me for at least the holiday season, but they said they are hopeful they can keep me on longer. I have orientation on friday for a few hours where i will be getting more details about when I will be working, and what exactly I will be doing. It is truly a prayer that has been answered!

School is going really well. i really like all of my classes and I love UVU. It is such a good school. I am signing up for classes for winter semester either the end of this week, or the beginning of next week. I declared my major as Behavioral Science, which is pretty new. I decided that I want to be a family therapist, and right now, I am planning on getting my masters and hopefully my PhD. It's going to be a lot of school, but I feel really, really good about this decision.

Singles Branch is wonderful, as always. I got a new calling. I am Visiting Teaching Coordinator which I am really excited about. the branch hasn't really ever encouraged Visiting Teaching, and I am hoping to change that. Visiting Teaching, just like home teaching is so important and is truly inspired. I did teach a lesson a few weeks ago. it was about Visiting Teaching. I decided to basically teach an introduction to visiting teaching and the importance of it, and how I am going to go about my calling. It went really well and a lot of people told me they enjoyed it. I am glad because I want the ladies to be as enthusiastic about Visiting Teaching as I am.

A Visit with the Hermansens & the Redhairs

Of course we wanted to visit Tina and Michelle while we were in the area. David was still at work so we didn't get to see him, but as a bonus, Emily and OJ (Redhair) stopped by with their son, Issac on their way to pick up a 15 seat van in preparation for their adoption of 6 Navajo children, (all from one family). WOW! They are very excited about having an instant large family. Good luck to them.

That's Archer trying to pet Ashlee's dog. The Germaines are dog sitting while Ashlee is a Kiwi.
Saying goodbye to the Carltons.

Check out the two Quintons.
Gradma with a couple of the boys.
That swing that Quinty is on will not budge or rock no matter how hight you go. It was set in four bags of cement!

Sunday was church and then the Carlton's came out to Duncan where we visited, had a BBQ and learned the art of knitting. Several tried, but it was Rhiannon and Quinty who succeeded! No doubt because he held his tongue just right!

Football Game

The next day (Saturday), Carol stayed home and minded the store and Quinton, Dad & I headed to Thatcher to watch Quinty and Declan play in their football games. Football is big and they had a good turnout for the games. Both Quinty and Declan did very well. Smart Mama Rhiannon, but eye-catching shirts on them under their uniforms so it was easy to pick them out of the crowd.

As you can see, they even had cheer leader!

THE CARLTON FAMILY

Seated: McCoy 4, Quinton 9, Declan 6
Standing: Eddy, Rhiannon and Archer 1

Dad/Grandpa and I have just returned from a visit to Arizona. We arrived in Thatcher and met Carol at Rhiannon and Eddy's house where we visited awhile and checked out the latest project they have done which is finish the "Arizona" room, a play room where most of the children's toys are kept. Rhiannon keeps everything neat and tidy, and the children are allowed one play thing from the closet at a time and before they can have another, the first one must be gathered up and put away. This helps to control all those itty-bitty legos, k-necks (?) and the like from becoming an overwhelming mess.

Their boys are very sweet and well mannered. We just loved visiting them. More on our trip tomorrow.

OUR KIWI, ASHLEE GERMAINE

When Ashlee's company laid off several employees, she decided it was now or never to make her dream of going to New Zealand a reality. She gave up her apartment in Tucson, stored most of her things with the folks (including her dog) and flew to Auckland in the North Island. She worked her way down to Wellington at the Southern tip of the North Island and took a ferry to South Island where she got a job at a vineyard in the town of Blenheim (that's somewhere near Nelson). She did things like pruning the vines, tying them up, weeding, etc. She has a visa that allows her to work, but people aren't to anxious to hire when they know you are only there for less than a year. It was still winter when she arrived, but now summer is coming and she has headed back to Wellington to look for different work. This time she went by plane, a 13 seater! Her (Germaine) cousin is going to join her soon and they plan to do some travelling.

We'll be anxious to hear her take on those beautiful fjords, mountains, etc.

SISTER AGLE (aka danielle)

Danielle has been in the Mission Field for over a year. She loves the people, her companions, her Mission President and the area where she serves. All her letters are so positive. What a blessing for those who work with her. She is now serving in the New Hampshire area enjoying the beautiful fall colors, but soon it will be winter. Here's a picture of her last year bundled up ready to face the elements!

I know Sister Agle is grateful for all your prayers on her behalf.

Keep up the good work, Danielle.

WOW!!! What a pitcher!

UPDATES ON 3 GRAND-DAUGHTERS AWAY FROM HOME!

Aria is attending Western Nebraska Community State College on a softball scholarship. She loves it there. The school is very good about having lots of activities for them and the church does as well, so I don't think there is much boredom going on.

RUB-A-DUB-DUB . . .

Yes, it's 3 men in a tub and who do you think they be????? Well that picture was taken on a vacation November 2002, but here's an update on what's going on now.

Robert & Melissa are expecting #4 near the end of January, and thrilled to be adding to their family. They have a beautiful new home in El Dorado Hills, CA which is outside of Sacramento where he works. It's kind of on the way to Lake Tahoe. Robert would like to find work a little closer to home.

Derek is working and living in San Francisco. He has a fairly new job that gives him opportunities to bring in the contracts. He lines us people for temporary and permanent positions with large companies and he enjoys the challenge of landing the big contracts. There is a someone special in his life, Jeanine, and we have met her and think she is special too.

Mark has finished his university years and is now working. He's not sure his present job will be one that he stays with, but for now it is challenging and rewarding. He lives in Orem and works in South Jordan. It's a pretty good commute, but doable. There is no one special lady in his life right now (that we know of) but he is dating a lot to find that special jewel!

So that is what is going on in the lives of the Sander-sons.

Jane at the Golden Gate Bridge, September 5, 2010

Several years ago when January's family finished reading the Book of Mormon, as a reward she took them to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. I thought at the time how much fun that would be.

I don't particularly have a "bucket list", but it is something I've wanted to do for several years. On my last visit up to the Sanders, January said "let's do it".

Bob had an appointment to show a house in Marin, so after church we went home, had a bite to eat, changed our clothes and then drove to the Marin side. He dropped us off and went to his appointment and off we went. It was a beautiful day, not crystal clear, but close to perfect. There were lots of people, but the bridge can handle a lot of people. We walked across, enjoyed the view from the SF side and then back. It was a wonderful experience and I think everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime

Mighty Warrior

As our place was getting power washed before being painted, after all the bushes had been trimmed back to bare bones, termites were discoved in the roof boards on our bedroom patio. It had to come down or be replaced. While Ken was visiting, he said he would take it down with the mighty "SAWZALL" a saw that apparently saws through anything! The kind Tim Allen gets all a twitter about. Off we went to Home Depot to rent one. Sure enough, Ken made short work of the patio roof. It was amazing to watch. Thanks, Ken.
