OUR KIWI, ASHLEE GERMAINE

When Ashlee's company laid off several employees, she decided it was now or never to make her dream of going to New Zealand a reality. She gave up her apartment in Tucson, stored most of her things with the folks (including her dog) and flew to Auckland in the North Island. She worked her way down to Wellington at the Southern tip of the North Island and took a ferry to South Island where she got a job at a vineyard in the town of Blenheim (that's somewhere near Nelson). She did things like pruning the vines, tying them up, weeding, etc. She has a visa that allows her to work, but people aren't to anxious to hire when they know you are only there for less than a year. It was still winter when she arrived, but now summer is coming and she has headed back to Wellington to look for different work. This time she went by plane, a 13 seater! Her (Germaine) cousin is going to join her soon and they plan to do some travelling.

We'll be anxious to hear her take on those beautiful fjords, mountains, etc.
