AT HUKILAU BEACH

As most of you know, January is spending some time in Hawaii.  She was able to sub-let a studio apartment in married student housing for a few weeks.  (That would be at Brigham Young University - Hawaii, aka Church College of Hawaii).

Several years ago, Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) built an exact replica of an ancient outrigger canoe and about once a year they take it down to the Hukilau Beach and launch it into the ocean so it can sail to the different Hawaiian Islands.  The trek takes about 1 month.  You must take several related courses to be a part of this. (I hope I got all the facts correctly on this, but it's close).  So bright and early yesterday she headed down there at 8a.  The process was to begin at 9a.  Finally by 2p they had it in the water.  She said it was amazing to watch. It looks like it was a colossal effort and very exciting.

Success!  It's out in the ocean ready to sail to Molokai.  Thanks, January for sharing.
