What a handsome young man. I'm sure he'll do us proud. |
Ken sent this information. Most interesting.
Just a little background on this trip of Davis that I found.
Davis is going to compete in the World Championships Haidong Gumdo competition being held in Seoul Korea this year. In case you're wondering about Haidong Gumdo (not Gumbo, but pronounced like Hey-dong-Gum-doh), here is a brief bit about it:
Haidong Gumdo is a martial art that originates from an
ancient Korean kingdom called Koguryo. The true principle of Haidong Gumdo is to
execute justice with the sword light that is obtained at the break of day from
majestic and brilliant sunlight that glows over the East Sea. Haidong Gumdo is
based on war techniques in which one warrior has to fight several
opponents. Currently, Haidong
Gumdo is one of the world's fastest growing martial arts with
1.5 million practitioners and over 1,600 training centers in 50 countries.
This year is the 6th
Haidong Gumdo World Championship. Davis' will be part of the US contingent
going to the Championships. They have the opportunity of showcasing their
talents in the opening ceremonies and I believe I heard that they are the only
US team that will be doing this. It has quite the schedule (see page two of the
PDF attached) including visiting Dong-Hak Temple, a lot of training and some
pretty fun trips. They'll visit a few locations in Korea. We're excited for him
and hope this will be one amazing trip with hopefully a lot of updates (right
Davis!!).
In any case, we're
excited for him and hope that the blog has the chance to put a couple of
stories if Davis is willing to contribute.
After having watched a marathon of "American Ninja" all day yesterday whilst recovering from the heatwave, I dub thee Davis our American Haidong Gumdo!! Do us proud, I'm sure you will!! Hai! Namaste! WOOT!!
