BLAKE'S BAPTISM DAY

A big day for Blake
Blake is now 8 and was baptised Saturday, July 21. It was a special occasion followed by returning to his home to celebrate his birthday and Grace's who turned 6 a couple of weeks ago. All the Sanders were there and it's the first time they have all been together since the weddings so there was lots of visiting to do.

Here are some pictures from that day.

Still newlyweds.

With two of their favorite nieces.

SUMMER PROJECT

Remember that wonderful deck the Agle jr.'s have where all the boys ate their breakfast during the reunion?

It's a wonderful deck, but like most outdoor decks, the time eventually comes when it must be repainted.  This is what Dennis wrote:

It probably takes a trained eye to see that our patio has needed repainting for a few years. This summer, Suzanne and I decided that we would take it on for once and for all. A couple of evenings a week and some time on Saturdays until it was done. Just chipping away at it. We spent hours and hours scraping and sanding. Wonderful bonding experience. Except it was exhausting and it's hard to bond when power tools are involved. This went on for weeks. Finally, Ken persuaded us to give Horacio a call. We did. Horacio finished it the next day.

This is the before

I like to think it was like the bottle cap that we had loosened for him. But the fact really is that Horacio and son know what they were doing and worked really hard for many concentrated hours and had the equipment to knock it out. Oh, sure, there's that way.

This is the after

It's a work of art!
Anyway, Suzanne and I will happily try to find another way to bond that involves less need for painter's masks and ear plugs.

Note from Mom:  Horatio and son did a great job, but I know Dennis and Suzanne also did MAJOR work on it as well.

DANIELLE'S DOINGS

Danielle and Megan Swan
As you probably know, Danielle is working on her Master's Degree and will also teach again this year at Provo High.  She's a busy gal, but carved out some time to make a quick long weekend trip back to her Mission area.  The long part begins with just trying to get there.

Here's a brief summary:

I had the HUGE blessing of serving a mission in the New Hampshire, Manchester mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from August 2009-January 2011. Our mission covered 5 states: New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York. The first area of my mission was West Port, New York. I served there for seven and a half months out of the eighteen months of my mission so it was a very important and special part of my mission. The first companion you have on a mission is called your trainer because they show you all the ropes of being a missionary. To this day, my trainer, Megan Swan, is one of my closest friends. Megan has been working back east for the past year and had the opportunity to go back and visit the mission. She invited me to come with her and we decided we would go back and visit West Port just for the weekend, since both of us needed to be back for work and school on Monday.

The adventure started on Thursday when I embarked on my journey back east. I arrived with plenty of time at the Salt Lake City airport to fly to Washington DC and then would fly to Burlington, Vermont. Right as it was time to begin boarding our flight in Salt Lake, we were informed that there was awful weather in DC so there were no flight going in or coming out and thus our flight would be delayed for at least an hour and a half.

And now the "fun" begins.  What an ordeal! Read the whole story at: funsizetells.blogspot.com

Having lunch in old town Montreal.(Where her Dad served his Mission)

On a city tour of Montreal.

Here's her last paragraph:

After we had had some food and finished visiting with everyone, it was time for me to head back to the airport. I flew from Burlington, VT to Detroit, Michigan. From Detroit, I flew to Salt Lake. Everything went about a million times smoother than my trip out there until we tried to land in Salt Lake. As we were beginning our descent, a HUGE thunderstorm hit Salt Lake. There was lots of big lightening, VERY close to our plane, it was quite the experience. It took us about an hour to land. We began our initial decent, but then had to pull back up and circle back around and then try and land quite slowly again to let the thunderstorm run its course. But all was well, and everyone landed safe and sound and home in one piece.

THE 95% FINISHED PROJECT

TA DAH!!!!
Here it is folks.  Ken says it's 95% finished.  Looks wonderful doesn't it.  Great job.

Beautiful French doors with small windows on the side that open with a screen on them when they want a slight breeze.

They recently did a complete switch-a-roo on nearly the complete house.  Sophie moved downstairs and her room became the office once again.  Mayra will be moving out and so all the bedrooms were changed around.

Coppelia has started working with Ken on banking and will use this as her office so she can work from home.

Sophie and JP are enjoying moving the cars around on the quilt.

Nearing the end of Davis' trip.

Well then, the days are rapidly blurring together and I've actually had to resort to checking with my journal to figure out which day it is and which I last told you about.

It certainly won't help that tomorrow ( for me [Wednesday, for your reference]) will be around 35, or more, hours long. It's funny how my long plane ride will only take place over 3 hours, eh?

Anyway, on to the events of the last two days. I already mentioned that I had breakfast and that we were heading to go shopping. It turns out that the place we went shopping was closed for either a holiday or because it didn't open until the night, I never could find out which it was.

We decided to walk to another shopping area, but all we found was kendo gear, athletic gear and miscellaneous items. At this point we headed to the Hamilton Shopping District via Taxi. When we arrived, I walked around and found a good amount if awesome things for sale; I even found an awesome mother of pearl clock that was broken for 1000 won, an amount that's a little under a dollar.

After getting our fill of buying, we headed on over to our hotel. After that... We didn't really do that much; just got a pizza for dinner and watched movies.

Wait, I nearly forgot something! I was interviewed about the 2012 Olympics, it didn't take too long, but it was fun. In other news, I did manage to find my watch, so hooray for that.

On to today then.

Today started off with a large breakfast and then a service project.

Brother Beck, is a friend of Carry Kwanjangnim, and he took time out of his schedule to help us. In the end he left his son, Jimwun, to translate and direct us to help some elderly and handicapped people make money by assembling boxes for a company.

We did this for a bit before walking around the non-tourist part of town and then returning to help for another hour. They even gave us some pastries, for our work.

We then took a taxi over to a palace, but once we arrived we found out it was closed on Tuesdays, so we moved on, past an area coated in policemen and guards. We were near the Blue House, a group of buildings that houses government offices. We couldn't take photos of the most guarded ones, due to North Korea most likely.

Afterwards we wandered about, unsure of what to do but we stumbled upon this awesome art place, and saw this cool and ironic art. A lady there was so kind and she actually gave me a book  she wrote about the art.  That might have been my favorite event.

We went to another palace and luckily this one was open but cost 1000 won to enter. It has some fantastic artwork and design and some magnificent dragons carved into some areas, fantastic roofs, and general grandeur.

Later, we headed to Domhyunnuk Market, a massive market that had over grown everything, including the subway system. I had delicious mokibigi and a mondo ( some sort of dumpling like thing.

Aster that, it was getting late so we began the long back to my room.

*****

Funny thing, I'm coming home today. The thing is that today will be over 30 hours. So I estimate around 10 to midnight. I'm not sure yet so I'll give you guys a call when I know for sure.

The international dateline is like time travel, since tomorrow will be today. Weird, eh?

SHOPPING IN KOREA

Here's the latest from Davis:

We took a taxi over to a shopping center in Ichiton district and I have sadly spent a decent amount of money, though I did get some cool stuff out of it. However the amount spoken of is relative.

I'll be relaxing soon at the hotel, and I think I'll be going out again later today. However I'm going to conserve my money now.

Unfortunately... I've misplaced my watch. I believe I know where it is, and provided I'm right, it will then only be a matter of me locating where it went.

I'll be back late Wednesday, if everything goes according to schedule.
Davis

I wonder what the sign says?

How colorful is that?

Well he does "feed" us spiritually.

K F C seems to be everywhere.

Looks like many of the signs are in English too.

We later on had a fancy lunch, however I missed the first two courses and thus was a little underfed. I did make it in time to get a succulent steak fillet, which was as tender as could be and covered I a delicious brown sauce. We also had a magnificent salad with this somewhat sweet salad dressing. Last,  but not least, was dessert: a tiny slice of a creamy cake covered in a sweet, huckleberry like sauce, with whipped deann and a red berry. I tried the berry, expecting it to be sweet, but it was actually quite sour, and made me pucker up.

We went out last night, it was raining again very lightly, so we got ice cream and korean pizza. We carried the pizza to Sanders and my room and ate it as a big group whilst watching both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The pizza was delicious, and it was nice to recap the movies before seeing the third one.

I must have collapsed into sleep before the end of the 2nd movie, as I woke up with my DS still playing.

Still, things are going well. Today I had a nice large breakfast, perhaps too large, and now we're going to go shopping and sight seeing.
