THATCHER UPDATE

Here's a chance to visit (vicariously) Silver City, New Mexico.  Rhiannon writes:

On Saturday, Quinton had a 7th grade football game in a picturesque little town in New Mexico named Silver City. Eddy had to coach in Safford so only Ashlee and I went to the game. It was a two hour drive that was very scenic. Quinton is number 72 and he is mainly on offense but does help out on defense as well. In the action photos he is lined up on the right side.

There are actually three Quintons (who knew Quinton would be such a popular name????)on his team as the photo shows all of them together.

After the game, our first stop was a thrift store as Quinton forgot to bring any jeans he only had pj pants (they left really early). At the thrift store, Ashlee was able to find big Quinton some military uniforms. Silver city is a town that is artsy and back in the 70s lots of hippies moved there, so Ashlee was delighted by the number of vegetarian friendly restaurants. We had lunch at a historic building then we did the cute downtown that has lots of quaint shops. We went to a candy/fudge shop and tried chocolate covered cinnamon bears (tasty) and jalapeƱo fudge (not tasty). Then we went to giant antique store/mall. Quinton found a glass chess set for $4, the vintage sweater vest for $5 (from a street vendor of vintage clothes).

I bought the Asian shelf sitters (be careful how you say it) for $10 and the elves all of them for $20. Ashlee bought some needlepoint pictures. We stopped at a couple of other shoppes and then had some gelato at a shop that had thirty different flavors.
(Actually Rhiannon, Grandma Price had those same figurines!)

Then we all headed back to Duncan to drop off Ashlee where we stopped for a visit with Carol and big Quinton. It was a fun day and we would like to go back and explore some more. They had a civil war era military fort and a nice museum we want to visit next time.

(Sounds like a very fun trip!)

GERMAINE'S EMPORIUM IN DUNCAN, AZ

After a storm put a kibosh on their old sign, Quinton decided it was time to redo it and here are the results.
Mix those paints

 Tote that bar

 Can't be afraid of heights

And you get a stunning result! Well done.

They have a new website that is worth checking out. Go to http://www.germainesemporium.com/ and be sure and do the "store tour" (upper right). You'll be blown away.

A couple of years ago, Erik, Kristin and the kids visited the Germaines and bought a lot of treasures. Kristin posted this on Facebook:
"Bought this cute table cloth at Germaine's Emporium!"

MURIRIETA UPDATE

Lots going on in Murrieta. With four kids going in many

directions, plus Mom very involved in school and Erik's

business keeping him very busy, there is not much time to

sit around and eat bon-bons.

RYAN

Ryan as new Sr Patrol Leader. Nate and Travis getting their merit badges and making it to 1st class.

Lindsey

Lindsey decided to try something new with her hair. Sadly,

the comb got VERY tangled.

Kristin said, "I was a little nervous there for a bit about Lindsey's hair.  She is lucky we were able to cut it away.  It's hard to be a girl."

Nate

Nate and Erik having a good laugh at something or other!

THROWBACK THURSDAY

One of my creative outlets when I was a young Mom was sewing. I loved sewing outfits for my children. When January and Carol were little, I often made their outfits to match or at least out of the same material.

Here they are sitting on our "new" piano bench. The piano was a surprise for me when I returned home from the hospital with Dennis jr. A total surprise! Somehow, on our meager salary and Dad going to school full time and working full time, he managed to buy me a piano and have it waiting for me when I got home!

Words can't express how I loved that generous gesture. It was pretty old, and BIG, but had a nice tone and it was heaven to me to have that piano.
Here's another outfit I made for Easter 1958. The dresses were 'polished cotton', a new treatment that made the cotton shiney. I think we stole the show, don't you?
I didn't make his outfit, but I did make the quilt!

MAPLETON UPDATE

Here's a few things going on in Mapleton.

Ken writes: Finished the main painting and started stone work. The stone work is a lot more fun, but I did enjoy painting. Another Saturday of stone work, then grouting and then the floor and then more grouting and then touch ups and done. I'm now estimating full completion by October 20, 2013 or maybe sooner if I can just get a few more days of time.

A few weeks ago, Ken & Steven went to a Muse concert which they both enjoyed very much.

This was Steven's first concert and it was a WOW!
(Note the braces.)

Voila! Look what happened today!

Nice smile. Perfect!

LOBSTER

Today I visited my favorite dentist, Kevin Rummler and now my teeth on scraped and pretty! Look Ma! No cavity's. While there, I asked about his lobster catch and he explained how you catch a lobster. You go at night and wear a wet suit with a weight in the back. With your snorkel and mask on, and a flashlight, you skim the surface until you see your prey. Turn off the flashlight and dive down and then turn it on and grab the lobster getting a firm hold so he can't escape. Put him in the bag making sure (at least 5 times) that he is secured. This is what you get!

A VISIT FROM THE SANDERS

January and Bob came down to visit for a few days. They also spent a couple of days in San Diego with some old friends, and among other things, attended a Padre's game.

While they were in San Diego, the Rummlers visited us on Wednesday and we enjoyed lunch and reminiscing about the two trips we took together in 1999 & 2000 back East to visit U.S. historical sites, and church history sites
Enjoying the scrapbooks.

When the Sanders came back we did a few things such as .
Basting a quilt together to get ready to quilt.

Visiting . .

Having my toenails painted.

Out to eat once, (but was a little much for Papa)

Bob trying out the recliner . . .

Saying goodbye to them as they drove back to Fairfield.
