TA DA

Remember about a year ago when I was cutting up those Hawaiian scraps to make a quilt?

This was back in San Juan Capistrano.

Here's the pile of rectangles ready to do something with,
(but what?).

I started working on it again recently. An hour here, an hour there and voila! A finished quilt. It's wild and bright, but I love it.
Now I'm in Springville and laying them out on the floor to see what is going to work. I finally decided on how I wanted to put them together and got the quilt top pieced.

On the island in my kitchen, I laid out the backing and the batting and clamped it taut with some clamps I borrowed from Ken's workshop.

Then I put safety pins in each bloc. When it is all pined in the center, I shift the rest of the quilt over and pin the rest of it. I leave the pins open until I have them all in and then when I take it off the table, I close the pins. This holds all three layers in place while I quilt it.

Here's a close up of the pins in each block.

I was able to machine quilt in on my home sewing machine. It's a bit like wrestling an alligator, but I managed. I ended up doing a "meandering" stitch.

  2. I have seen this with my own eyes and it is beautiful. A testament to how if you keep at something, it will eventually happen.
