Dennis Eugene Agle, 1/16/1933-11/7/2013

Dennis Eugene Agle, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in San Juan Capistrano, California, on Nov. 7, 2013.

Born on Jan. 16, 1933 in Sacramento, California, to Magne Agle and Leone Christenson, he lost his father in 1937 to tuberculosis. His mother was remarried in 1939 to Axel Anderson.

Dennis served four years in the U.S. Navy. While he was assigned to a naval air base in Phoenix, Arizona, he met the love of his life, Carol Jane Price, at a church dance. They were married on Aug. 8, 1953.


Dennis earned his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and his master's degree from the University of Hawaii. He spent the majority of his career as an administrator for four universities: Church College of Hawaii (now Brigham Young University-Hawaii) in Laie, Hawaii; Southern Utah State College (now Southern Utah University) in Cedar City, Utah; Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah; and United States International University in England and in San Diego, California.

Dennis was deeply devoted to his family and to his faith. He served in many different callings in his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop twice.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, and their seven children: January Sanders (Robert) of Fairfield, California; Carol Germaine (Quinton) of Duncan, Arizona; Dennis Agle Jr. (Suzanne) of Springville, Utah; Ruth Agle of Rolfe, Iowa; Kenneth Agle (Coppelia) of Mapleton, Utah; Julie Lancaster (Scott) of Rolfe, Iowa, and Erik Agle (Kristin) of Murrieta, California. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Rummler (Steve) of St. George, Utah; and Tina Hermansen (David) of Chandler, Arizona. In addition, he is survived by 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be two services for family and friends. One will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 470 Camino San Clemente, San Clemente, California. The second will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton, Utah.

  2. Rich and I, and Aimee, Travis & Lindsey were blessed to have known Dennis. He will be missed. He was one of the most kind and loving men I've known. What a sweetie! Love to you and the family, Barbara Flowers
