REMEMBER BACK . .

Remember those strange people I posted about awhile back? Well the race is over and we can now reveal who they were and why they were dressed that interesting way.

Erik, Kristin a couple of friends plus Ryan, now that he is old enough, participated in the R O C race; translated as the Ridiculous Obstacle Contest which is kind of a cross between a race and something similar to "Wipe Out". No pictures of the middle of the race, but here are some taken at the beginning and the end.

DAVIS GRADUATES FROM SEMINARY AND HIGH SCHOOL

Davis has completed two important things in his life. He graduated from Seminary and High School. Those are important milestones!

That's Davis on the big screen.

 Receiving his diploma

Proud parents

Davis has won four scholarships. First is the Energy Solutions Science Scholar Award of $2,000 with matching funds from BYU. This is for students that want to study the hard sciences and engineering.

Next, he won the Brigham Young Award from BYU which is $2,000. He also earned two smaller high school awards for excellence in education. It takes about $6,000 a year to attend BYU so he has pretty well paid for it.

He has a deferrment from BYU so that he can serve a mission.  His papers are in and he could receive that call as early as Wednesday, June 5.

Coppelia says: "I don't know where Davis is going on his mission. I guess the smart money would be on South Korea since he studied Korean martial arts and speaks some Korean. But, I keep thinking Africa. But then maybe it will be Fairbanks, Alaska. Who knows?  The Stake President is guessing Lima, Peru."

His Stake President just sent the papers in about a week ago, so it's short notice folks, but if you'd like to venture a guess as to where he will serve, send the guesses to me (janeagle36@gmail.com) or post them in the "comments".

Not to be outdone, JP also graduated from kindergarten.
Note the graduation tassel on his hat!

I LEARNED A NEW TRICK

Dennis Jr. has been here for a few days, tuning up our computers, hanging pictures, taking us to dinner, and generally just spending some time with 'the folks'.

I'm going to try to use a hint he gave me on how to include a "link".
Let me know if it works! (You have to click on the "here" below)

Ruth has a wonderful blog and you may or may not have seen it. She's talking about the dolls that she restores to a new life, her book which will be available soon, and I must say it is W O N D E R F U L.

You can read about Elsie, a doll she restored here

DAILY (almost) RITUAL

While Dennis Jr. was here, he snapped a picture (unbeknownst to us) of Dad and me playing our daily game of Rummy. We love to sit on the patio and enjoy each other's company while we play a game up to 500 pts. The next day the winner gets the seat looking out. (I was on a 2-day winning streak!). Note the two diet Cokes!

The next day, Dennis jr. captured this photo, our running score card. The circles represent who won the month. As you can see, Dad's ahead but there is still hope for me today.

NEW MEXICO

Last week Ken was in New Mexico on business. After the plane landed, he had about a 2 hour drive to the bank. After his work was done (a few days later) he chose to return to the airport via the scenic route. Here's a few pictures he took.
Ken said it was quite beautiful.

A NEW CHAPTER IN ARIA'S LIFE

She's off to Chile to begin a new chapter in her life. She'll be a great missionary and many people will be blessed for her coming into their lives, as we all have. Drop her a letter or an email every once and awhile. She will love hearing from you.

RYAN'S TRIP BACK EAST

For Spring break, Ryan along with his classmates got to take a dream trip.

Here in his own words:

As you might have heard, I recently went on an 8th grade field trip to visit Washington D.C.- but I didn't just visit D.C. I also visited Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York!

There are obviously a lot of things that were interesting, but there are a few that were my favorite. One monument I found to my liking was the Lincoln Memorial. I found it fascinating because during the recent studying I've done about the Civil War. I have enjoyed learning about
President Abraham Lincoln so I thought it was really cool to see him sitting in his chair with his famous Gettysburg speech to the left of him and his Emancipation Proclamation on the right.

Another monument I found fascinating was the Martin Luther King Jr. monument. I found this monument to be amazing because he was such a great protestant. The way he told all of the colored men to not use violence when being beaten for doing marches or protestants was truly remarkable. I also love his famous "I Have a Dream" speech which is written write next to his monument.

Last but not least my final favorite things about the trip was to see the Statue of Liberty. However, I didn't get on the actual island to see the statue - I took a ferry along  the outside of the island and got a couple of photos. This was an awesome monument because I liked how it was a gift from France and how it signifies the welcoming of people from different countries to America.

This is definitely a trip of a life time and I am very thankful that my parents were able to allow me to go.

Here's some other pictures Ryan took:
(His Mom said not to just take a picture of the sight, but to  be in it so it will be more memorable. He did a great job.)

A WHIRLWIND VISIT BEFORE ARIA LEAVES ON HER MISSION

This last weekend we had visitors. Aria, along with her parents came to say goodbye to the grandparents which Aria will not see for another year and a half, attend a wedding of Kevin & Neysa's son, visit their old ward in Glendale, take in an afternoon at the Huntington Library (which is an art Museum + beautiful gardens), and then pay a visit to DISNEYLAND!
A lot to do in 3 days, but they crammed it all in.
Aria at the beautiful grounds of Huntington Library.

Ken having a moment in the woods.

Coppelia & Ken enjoying their surroundings.

Did they get wet? Maybe, but they are sure having fun.

Aria came prepared with not one, but two Mouse ears. Silver and red depending on what she was going to wear. The other could be for Coppelia, but as luck would have it, Coppelia found the perfect pair for her. Check out the tiger print!
