So few of us! OK, recollections of this shot, everyone. My memories are few, but if it is the trip I am thinking of, we had been married less than a year, were living in married student housing, working, trying to get a degree. We loaded up our red Subaru, that would live for only a few more months (the moment we paid it off). It didn't have air conditioning. It probably couldn't go faster than 25 mph up some of those hills in San Diego. When we arrived, mom was not happy with my haircut (more specifically, the lack thereof). But I remember it was so chaotic trying to get away for a few days that the haircut didn't happen. I think we took this picture at Sears or something in one of those malls in Mission Valley. I might be completely off. I remember not being wild that we had to stop the festivities for the photo, but in retrospect, so glad we did. Thanks for posting, ma. (P.S. I got a haircut this week, you'll be happy to know!)
I think I remember this! Wasn't there some kind of issue with somebody's glasses? Like maybe Dad's wearing glasses with no lenses? Hmm...could be some kind of flashback...
Speaking of haircuts, I HATE that one of mine most of all! Kind of a glorified mullet - what was I thinking?! Nobody look!!!
For a second there, I thought January was holding Erik! But then, how could he als be sitting right next to her? Ah-HAH! SOLVED. The family resemblance, it is strong...
Ruth
P.S. Dennis, I like your hair. Also, Kenny's is long too...
Well, I remember the cute girl at the place we took the picture. I really wanted my hair to look good. More importantly, that was the summer of good tanning. I was working midnight shifts at USIU (as a security guard) and going as often as I could to the beach. The midnight shift was where I learned a few important lessons. One, taranculas (the spider that I can't spell) can jump. Pretty far. Two, you can meet the most interesting people at 3 am at 7-11. It engrained in me a sense that I didn't want to work midnight shifts for a living.
Mom says that we were scheduled to have the picture taken at a beautiful outdoor setting, but it was so windy that we had to do it indoors. The lovely people at Montgomery Wards hated the fact that we had such a big family. That's why Montgomery Wards has failed. Hopefully, that cute girl survived.
HAIRCUTS.I think the haircut I wasn't happy with was the one where you were still my son (without a wife) back in 1975 (just before Carol married)when a momma could say something like that.? After you married, I think, I HOPE, I would keep my mouth shut on the status of your hair. That would be up to Sue!
You're right Ruth. They didn't want the reflection of our glasses, so they gave us the frames with no lens. Cool, aren't they? Could they get them any bigger PS. I think your hair looks great. PSS. The family photo shoot was to be outside, but the weather was so bad we had to do it in their little studio and they really didn't want to photo a family as large as ours, but there was no way we could all get together again anytime soon.
