BREAKFAST AT THE SANDERS

When it was finally determined that I would go to Northern California and visit the Sanders, January called her boys and told them to figure out a time when they could ALL come to visit Grandma. They got their schedules to agree on Saturday, May 18 from 9a to noon. Not an easy task for 3 busy guys. January planned a wonderful breakfast of bacon & eggs, hash browns, fruit, donuts, milk and juice. We had a wonderful visit and it was so fun to catch up.

 Making sure everything is right.

 A beautifully set table.

 A lovely fruit compote.

Mark and Liz were the first to arrive.

 An array of lovely pictures.

Robert with Faith who will be one in June.

Blake, age 11 in June

Grace, age 9 in July

Two of the sisters-in-law, Melissa and Liz (Derek and Jeanine were soon to arrive).

 Melissa and January

Getting ready to sit down. Mark is showing Claire where to sit.

If Bob's around, plan on a little horse play.

Jeanine on the left, and Derek next to January.

We also celebrated London's birthday. She's wearing the crown and sitting next to Grandma.

What could that big present be for London???????

Now that is one unique gift.

Time to clean up. Bob is always so good to do the dishes.

After a meal like that, the floor needs to be swept.

More about the rest of the day next time. . .

PICKUP FROM THE AIRPORT

When I arrived in Oakland, we made a couple of stops on the way home. I passed this little house, and had to get a picture. January accommodated me by turning around so I could get a better shot. It is so teeny and narrow.

Later on in the week we went to her hair dresser, Scott for a new do for me.

That's Scott in the background washing someone's hair while mine takes on the new color!

A sight to behold. No "after" pictures for that day. I don't know why.

A VISIT TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

I finally felt like I could make a short airplane flight, so the Sanders sent me a ticket to come for a visit. Had a great time, and here is something I did soon after arriving.

Backstory: Diane, January's good friend has high cholesterol and was advised to try being a vegan for 3 weeks. She did, and it helped a lot. One of the things she enjoys is a quinoa (keen-wah) salad. She makes enough for several days, keeping the quinoa, veggies and dressing separate and then mixing them as needed. It is quite labor intensive but pays off in the end. We decided that we would all do it together and divide it into three and have some fun bonding time together.

As you can see, Diane has a temporary handicap. One of the reasons we decided to do this project.

This is Julie, another good friend of January. Her husband is the pilot for Larry E. and the reason awhile back they took that one day trip to Palm Springs for a day of relaxation and rest.

 Here we are getting started.

 That's a lot of food!

January is doing the peppers. I'm doing the carrots.

Got to have some music.

January trying out a new madoline slicer/grater. It was slick!

Diane is able to measure and stir.

Cheerful as ever, but she had a very serious operation. For quite awhile, she has not had the use of her thumbs. This operation is nicknamed the "anchovy surgery" for the way it is done. They remove the thumb bone and take bone from part of her forearm and some tendons, etc.  She has to wear this hard cast for 5 weeks, (in fact it just came off today!) She is now wearing a wrist cast for 4 more weeks, and then she will have several weeks of physical therapy. It was a very involved surgery and if she isn't very careful and would ever need to have it re-done, it will never be as good, so she is doing her best to be very careful.

 We're making progress.

Julie is chopping the celery, cilantro, etc.
Our attempt at a selfie. Julie has long arms, so she is the photographer.

We divided the goods into three bags.

Close up of one. Looks yummy, yes?
