HOT WHEELS ON THE WALL

Now here's an interesting Christmas gift. It's Hot Wheels on the wall which provided a lot entertainment for the Mapleton group. The design was created by Steven and enjoyed by all. It uses a new method of adhesive which can be put on the wall and removed without damage. A few months ago they took down the pictures they had lining the wall going to the basement, and rehung them downstairs. They repainted the hallway and so it turned out to be the perfect place for the Hot Wheels.

THE 12 IN 12 CHALLENGES ARE STARTING TO COME IN.

There are really two things that drive New Year's resolution success.  Number one is telling somebody about your goal.  Chances are, they'll either join you in pursuing it or at least support you.  Number two is to be concrete and specific.  You don't want a goal like "becoming a better person," because there's no objective way to judge that.  It's got to be something like "I'm going to cut my body mass index to 25." It can't be fudgeable.                                           Dr. Mehmet Oz 2003

'Hope those of you that are considering the 12 in 12 Challenge are giving thought to your up to 4 challenges. To get the ball rolling, some have been turned in already. Please note that you have the option to change or alter your submits up until January 2.

Rhiannon
1. Take the 12% in 12 months weight loss challenge.
2.  Attend the Temple 12 times in 2012
3.  Do the family history research and have 12 Family names receive Temple Ordinances in 2012
4.  Read 12 books in 2012 two of which will be religious

Dad/Grandpa
1.       To lose 12% of my body weight by 12/12/12.
2.      To write ten years of my personal journal with pictures by 12/12/12.
3.      To attend the temple at least 12 times by 12/12/12.
4.      To read the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, along with the Institute manual by 12/12/12.

Mom/Grandma
1) Take the 12% in 12 months weight loss challenge.
I think it is pretty exciting to have the encouragement of this program. If you enter this as one of your challenges, to be eligible for the monthly drawing, I feel you must have lost SOME weight for that month.  Can't leave it all to November!

2) Do a scrapbook of the 2011 Agle Family Reunion and complete 3 UFOs.
UFOs in quilting terms is to finish a project that you started but have never completed.  (I have a few of those!) When I finish one of these projects, I feel I will be eligible to enter for that months drawing.  Hopefully that will be about once a quarter.

3) Attend the Temple 12 times in 2012.
I feel I will only be eligible for the monthly drawing if I attended the Temple that month.

KEN
I'm going to attend the temple 12 times in 2012.
I'm going to read the 3.5 of the standard works in 2012 (all but the old testament).
I'm going to do the weight loss challenge.

 DENNIS JR

1.       WEIGHT LOSS: To have lost 12% of my 1/1/2012 weight by 12/12/12.

2.       PRAY VERSE EAT: My version of Eat Pray Love. I too frequently forget to pray and study the scriptures, but I never ever forget to eat. Hence, at least 250 times in 2012, will pray and read at least one verse of scripture before a morsel of food crosses my lips that day.

3.       CREATIVE PROJECT(S): In 2012, I will have accomplished at least one of the following (preferably all): a) held a staged reading of a new, original, non-Liken musical; b) completed production of a non-Liken, low-budget feature film; c) mounted a stage production of a Liken.

4.       FITNESS: By 12/12/12, I will have completed at least 175 exercise sessions (which can be interpreted liberally, from joining Suzanne on a dog walk to mowing the lawn or blowing snow, but should last at least a half hour).

IT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER!

Update on the 12 in ’12 Contest.

Well this contest just gets more and more exciting.  Ken wants to accomplish two main things.  The first is the attainable weight loss contest, and the second is to help our young kids to set goals, (meaningful goals), and of course,  attain those goals.

In order to sweeten the pot, there will be a monthly drawing for those who have reached their monthly goal.  The prize will be a US GRANT, ( in other words, $50).  The money is to be used for that person on something they want.
It’s “F-U-N” money. The only other requirement is to let the group know what special thing you did with the money.

This fierce group looks ready to enter the contest!

The contest is open to the children of Dennis & Jane Agle and their spouses, their grandchildren and their spouses and their great-grandchildren.

You may have up to four (4) goals per person.  Obviously your goals should be something that challenges you to be better and/or do better.

Your goals should be reported to me (Mom/Grandma/Great-Grandma) no later than January 2, 2012.  You may not ask your mommy to do that for you unless you are around the ages of McCoy or London.  In other words, older children and teenagers and of course adults must actually email those goals to me.  All goals will be published unless you specifically ask me not to.

Reporting must be done on the 12th of each month (rare exceptions may be permitted).

For every goal that you set, your name will be written on a Popsicle stick (Ken’s suggestion) and entered into the jar.  On the 13th of the month we will hold the drawing and announce the winner via the blog.  In fact, all this info will probably be done via the blog.

Here are some examples:

If you set a goal to lose 12% of your weight by 12/12/12 you may enter the monthly drawing even if you haven’t lost weight that month.  However, if on December 12th you have not achieved that goal, you may not enter for the B-I-G drawing. Twelve percent weight loss is the minimum for this contest, however if you make that challenge by, say May 2012 and you want to continue.  Please do so.  Each 6% additional weight loss earns you another entry. (BYW—everyone who takes the weight challenge will automatically be entered into the first drawing which will be held in just 12 days after the start of the contest.  Such a deal!

Let’s say you set a goal to run a marathon in May, you may only enter the monthly drawing in June if you completed the marathon.  BUT, if your goal was to train for a marathon and you do so monthly, you could enter each month if you actually do your training.

There is no policing on this contest.  It’s all based on honesty and prompt reporting.  I will not nag for reports.  That’s up to you.  There are some important learning lessons in this, don’t you agree?  However, I will send out a reporting reminder around the 10th of each month.

For your weight goal, you do not have to tell me your starting weight unless you want to.  However, you do have to actually weigh in and WRITE it down.  You can figure out your monthly percentage weight loss on your own, or use the handy, dandy chart Dennis Jr. has prepared.  (Just ask for a copy).

As a reminder, here are the great prizes being offered at the end of the contest in addition to the monthy prizes:

3rd place prize - $100 Dollar gift certificate *

2nd place prize - $100 Dollar gift certificate * and a $200 amazon Kindle Fire **

1st Place Prize - $100 gift certificate* and a $200 Amazon Kindle Fire ** and $400 in Disney Dollars.

*from either Cinemark or Regal (they own Edwards, Regal and UA)
**or whatever the “hot” item is around that time

How about this for an idea. "I will do X-Number of Random Acts of Kindness (RASK) during 2012.

2012 CHALLENGE UPDATE

Just a friendly reminder about the amazing challenge that Ken has presented for 2012. (Check the blog posted December 10th for complete details)

I've heard (through the grapevine - - nothing official yet) that some of the goals, in addition to those of the weight loss variety, are spiritual (Temple attendance, Scripture reading) and some are secular (reading 12 books in 2012, doing X-number of random acts of kindess during the year).

Get your thinking caps on and see if you can come up with a worthy goal to either stand alone or to do in addition to your weight reduction goal.

As I hear of the challenges, I'll post them to give others ideas.  Ken has set a limit of four (4) goals per person.

See if you can set the kind of goal that allows you to get back on that horse if you falter instead of giving up if you happen to mess up along the way. For example: "I will read 12 books during 2012 (rather than 1 book a month)." This way it allows for some make up time if events occur that makes it impossible to finish that 5th book in May.

In a few days, I will ask for a formal committment for the record of those that are going to participate and what goals they have set.

For the record, I will be the goal keeper. You will be required to submit your goal to me and report to me at least once a month.  Your monthly or semi-monthly report will include how you did that month and what you intend to accomplish the next month.

For those of you who are taking the weight reduction challenge, you can report to me the percentage of your weight loss (Ken has created a handy-dandy Excel spreadsheet designed to make it easy to do; you can download that here) or, if you prefer, I can handle the number crunching for you if you send me your weigh-in number on the 12th and/or the 24th, along with your summary of what you did for the preceding reporting period and what you're planning to do during the next reporting period.

So, let's go, everybody. Let's have some fun together as a family, while making some improvements (not that we need it!) and earning a chance to win some great prizes. Feel free to send me your goal(s) either in the comments below or, if you prefer, email them to my new email address: janeagle36@gmail.com.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

NEWS FLASH ! ! !

As you may know, Dennis jr. has been here to spend a few days with the folks and to do a few chores around the house. One of the things he did was to enable you to make comments on the blog much easier.  Here's what he wrote:
This is an example of where you could post your comments.
Hope to hear from you soon!

"Now you don't have to register and sign away your life in order to post comments on the blog. Just scroll to the bottom of any post that you want to comment on, click the comments box, add your comments, you then have the option of adding your name or commenting anonymously, then click publish.

It will then ask you to enter the squiggly word to make sure you are a human and not a spamming computer, and that's all there is to it!"

A VISIT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM

Of course when you hear the ice cream truck, if you're a kid, you want some ice cream. Erik gave his permission but the kids had to use their own money, so up the stairs they ran to get it and just a quickly down to catch the truck. As you can see, Travis took a tumble, or as Erik put it, "This is what happens when you eat asphalt while chasing the ice cream truck."

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DENNIS AND SUZANNE

It was a snow storm like they seldom have in England.  It brought the city down.  The date:  December 11, 1981.  Would there be a wedding tomorrow?  With little snow removal equipment available, because they seldom get those kind of storms, would the smaller towns be cleared????  These were the questions running through our minds on that day. Prayers were answered and it turned out to be a beautiful day.

Congrats on 30 years!

A CHALLENGE FOR 2012

Ken is making this proposal for 2012 and it sounds like a lot of fun,
a good motivating challenge and the possibility of some great prizes
at the end of the challenge, not to mention the benifits just for participating.

The 12 in ’12 Challenge Sweepstakes
Who doesn’t love a good challenge especially one that benefits you in oh so many possible ways. If you do, take the ExtendedAgle Family 12 in ’12 Challenge. It’s easy to do and we can all benefit.
Here’s the Challenge
At the Beginning of 2012 (Hence the “12”), everyone will weigh themselves. You can keep that weight # private, but you’ll want to keep track of that number. The number is your starting point. The challenge is to be 12% less from that number on December 12th (the 12th day of the 12th month, you’re starting to see a theme here aren’t you) of 2012. Obviously, there are some of you who don’t need this challenge, but not to worry you can come up with your own 12 in ’12 challenge (see below for those wanting to take the optional route).
For those that take the weight challenge, on the 12th of each month you’ll do three things. First, weigh yourself and calculate your percentage weight loss. So if you weighed 180 pounds and you lost 2 pounds that would mean that you lost 1.1% (pretty awesome). Second, you’ll briefly answer two basic questions, what did you do that month and what are you planning on doing the next month to meet your challenge. Third, you’ll tell Mom/Grandma/Jane Agle the above two items. To help those of us on the weight loss challenge, you’ll do #1 and #3 on the 24th of the month as well, cause that really helps.
Want a Different Challenge?
Okay, now what about those that happen to need another challenge besides weight loss. Of course, we want you to participate and here is how it will work for you. Pick a challenge that requires effort every month. It could be something like reading a book every month, making your bed every day of the month, doing something nice for someone else each month. There are so many tasks that you can pursue. That will be up to you, but there are rewards.
For those that take the “Other” challenge, on the 12th of each month you’ll do two things. First, analyze how you did with respect to your self-designed challenge. Second, you’ll briefly answer two basic questions, what did you do that month and what are you planning on doing the next month to meet your challenge. Third, you’ll tell Mom/Grandma/Jane Agle the above two items.
The Reward
For those that take either challenge and were successful in achieving their challenge you’ll get one entry in the Challenge Sweepstakes. The entries end on the 12th of December. On that day, the entries will be drawn out of a “hat” by Dennis and Jane Agle (we trust them right) and will pick 3rd prize, 2nd prize and 1st prize.
3rd Prize will be a $100 gift certificate from either Cinemark or Regal (they own Edwards, Regal and UA).
2nd Prize will be $100 gift certificate from either Cinemark or Regal (they own Edwards, Regal and UA) and a $200 Amazon Kindle Fire (or whatever the “hot” item is around that time).
1st Prize will be a $100 gift certificate from either Cinemark or Regal (they own Edwards, Regal and UA) a $200 Amazon Kindle Fire (or whatever the “hot” item is around that time) and $400 in Disney Dollars.
Sweeten Your Chances and the Pot
Okay, you can sweeten your chances should you choose. One, let’s say you want to lose more than 12%. Well, if you make that challenge by, say May 2012, and you want to continue, do so. Each 6% additional weight loss earns you another entry.
Or say you want to do more than one “other” challenge. By all means you can and for each challenge that you’re successful in achieving through December 12th 2012 you’ll get an entry. For those that want to combine both, feel free. Each person can earn a maximum of four entries.
For those that want to ADD (not contribute to what is already there, but rather to add), you can do so. But feel no compulsion as good prizes are already there and this is more about giving back and achieving a goal or two. This can be a lot of fun and help all involved. So join the challenge!! The fun begins January 1, 2012.

SOME BLASTS FROM THE PAST

No new news. What's a Mom to do? Post some old pictures. Enjoy. (But I'm looking for news items).
This was taken in Cedar City @ 1974. It's from an old slide that
was in poor condition. I restored it as best as possible.
I love the setting and arrangement. Sad that it is so faded.

THIS JUST IN!
Dennis jr. just sent me a copy of the above photo that he
was able to clean up even more.  Nice job, Dennis.  Thanks.
